Groundworks
& civils.

You turn up before the site exists. No compound, no power, no water, no gate. Welfare that needs a connection is no use to you, so ours does not need one.

FIRST TRADE ON

You arrive before the site exists

Groundworks is the trade that turns up when there is nothing there: no compound, no hardstanding, no power, no water, and frequently no gate worth the name. Everyone else inherits a site. You make one.

Which is why welfare that depends on a connection is useless to you. A self-contained towable unit is dragged in behind a pickup on day one, levelled on whatever standing you have made, and it works. No temporary supply application, no standpipe, no drainage.

The one thing to sort before we arrive is ground that will take the unit and the delivery vehicle without either sinking. Hardcore or plates, level and firm. Our guide on preparing your site for delivery covers what good looks like.

CIVILS

Jobs that move

Civils work rarely stays still. A drainage run, a bridge repair, a section of culvert, an S278 junction: the work face moves along the job and the welfare should move with it rather than leaving the gang with a ten minute walk each way.

Every unit in our fleet tows on its own axles, so relocating it is a visit, not a crane booking and a lift plan. Tell us at quote stage if you expect to move it and we will price that in rather than surprise you with it.

Gang of six

The BOXD-12: canteen, separate WC, drying room. Light enough to tow behind a 4x4 or a Transit.

Gang of ten

The BOXD-16: canteen plus a separate office for drawings, permits and inductions.

Twelve at peak

The BOXD-20: full canteen and office, still towable rather than lifted.

Winter work

Diesel heating and a drying room, which on a January drainage job is the difference between a crew that comes back after dinner and one that does not.

COMPLIANCE

The paperwork side

Principal contractors on civils work tend to ask for welfare arrangements in the pre-start pack, not after the fact. Units are supplied with risk assessment information at handover, servicing is logged against the unit, and our insurances, policies and assessments are published on our compliance page so a supply chain team can check before a first hire.

Units are designed and equipped to support Schedule 2 of CDM 2015. What your site needs, and providing it, stays with the employer or principal contractor.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can a welfare unit be delivered onto an unmade site?
Usually yes, provided there is firm, level standing for the unit and access the delivery vehicle can use without getting stuck. Hardcore or plates are enough. If in doubt send a photo of the access and we will tell you straight whether it will work.
Can we move the unit as the works progress?
Yes. All our units tow on their own axles, so a relocation is a visit rather than a crane. Mention it at quote stage so it is priced rather than added later.
Do you deliver to sites with no power or water?
That is the normal case for us. Onboard generator, onboard water, sealed waste tank emptied at service visits.
What happens if the ground is too soft on the day?
If access is not as described and we cannot site the unit safely, the visit aborts and an abortive delivery charge applies. That is in our terms, and it is why we would rather see a photo first than send a wagon on a guess.
Is winter working a problem?
No. Units have diesel-fired heating, lighting and a drying room. Wet gear dries overnight rather than going back on wet.
