What you actually pay for
1. Weekly container hire
Charged by the week from the day it lands on your drive until the day we take it away. A 20ft costs more per week than a 10ft. No long minimum term, so a short move stays short.
2. Delivery and collection
Quoted as a stated figure, not hidden in the weekly rate. It covers the hiab and the driver, so it reflects distance and how awkward the access is, not the size of your sofa.
3. Storage, only if you need it
If there is a gap between completion dates, the container comes back to our facility and storage is charged while it is with us. If it goes straight to the new house, you pay nothing for this.
Extra moves
Old house to our yard to new house is two lifts, not one. Priced honestly up front rather than appearing on the final invoice.
We do not publish a price list, because a two week move in Durham and a four month renovation in Northumberland are not the same job. Send a postcode, a size and rough dates, and you get a fixed quote for your move rather than a from-price that changes later.
Four things change the number
- Size. 10ft or 20ft. See which one fits.
- How long. Longer hires sharpen the weekly rate, because the lifts cost the same either way.
- Distance and access. We work the North East from Durham. A tight lane or a long walk for the hiab costs more than a wide drive on a main road.
- Whether it is stored with us. Straight across to the new house is cheaper than a spell in our facility in between.
Against self-storage and removals
When you compare a container to a self-storage unit, count the van. Self-storage quotes rarely include hiring a van twice, fuel, or two days of your own labour loading and unloading at both ends. A container is loaded once and unloaded once.
When you compare it to a removal firm, count the risk. A removal booking is a fixed date. If the chain slips, you are rebooking at short notice at whatever price is left.
Neither comparison always favours us. On a simple same-day move with everything packed and a short distance, a removal van can be the cheaper answer, and we will say so.
